REFLECTION

by Mary Alice McGinnis

When my husband and I were first dating, he invited me to a dance at the Blackwell Center in Columbus, Ohio. I was so nervous!! We had taken some West Coast Swing classes together, but I felt far from ready to DANCE in PUBLIC!

But we went. As I looked across the dance floor, I watched all the amazing dancers, felt so awkward and out of place. I figured I could stay at the back, in the dark, and just be a wall flower. Maybe I would dance with my date in the shadows.

Suddenly, an older man who had been making the rounds, stepped up to me. “Will you dance with me?” I was stunned and terrified. My date softly said, “It’s okay. Go ahead, it will be fun.”

This man was a skilled dancer, and HE LOVED IT!! As he swept me across the dance floor, I was stepping and mis-stepping all over the place. He said, “You are so stiff and uptight. Loosen your arms and make them like spaghetti. Just let go and let me lead.”

I chose the word DANCE as my focus word this year. I sense that Jesus is inviting me to dance with Him. He wants me to stop trying to perform, stop striving. He is drawing me closer to Him. He is inviting you too!

I am praying this over you today:

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,

so that you may know Him better.”

Maybe this is your first step onto the dance floor with God. Jesus went all the way to the cross for you, and death could not defeat Him.

Now, He is calling you. He wants to sweep you off your feet with His love. There is no fear in His love, because His love is PERFECT!

He promises to lead those who trust in Him with the Power of His Holy Spirit. We don’t have to depend on our own wisdom or skill. We don’t have to prove ourselves or perform. He just wants us to let go and let Him lead! He has other lives to touch with His love.

That is His dance; drawing close to Him and drawing others to know Him better too.

And He is inviting You to join Him in it!

PRAYER

Father God, I feel you calling me. You are urging me, gently inviting me into Your embrace, to dance with You. I want to experience the joy of following Your lead and moving in sync with Kingdom plans. Help me focus on the hope found in Your perfect love. Let me reflect Your love and glory to the world.
