REFLECTION
by Mary Alice McGinnis

There is evidence of change all around us. The shorter daylight hours, plants that were once green and lush are turning brown, the sound of locust chirping, the cooler temperatures. We know that fall is coming, and winter is not far behind.
The truth is we all experience seasons of change. We are either in the midst of it, emerging from it, or anticipating the next wave of change.
Where are you experiencing change in your life?
When life is settled and comfortable—when routines flow smoothly and worries seem distant—it’s easy to feel self-assured. But when change hits, when the earth beneath us feels unsteady and the future unsure, that is when we grasp for something solid – something unshakeable to anchor us.
When my 25-year marriage came to an end, life took a dramatic shift, and I was floundering. Everything I thought I knew, who I was, even what I thought my life was supposed to be was coming undone.
I felt God calling me closer, nudging me to lean in and deepen my relationship with Him. I was drawn to read His Word – daily – as though my life depended on it. I gobbled up His Word like a starving infant. He reminded me of the depths of His boundless love. I eagerly returned to meditate on scripture daily to ground myself to this unshakable Kingdom – where the Almighty King who loves me perfectly reigns supreme.
It caused me to ponder. How can I stay consistent in grounding myself in Jesus, daily? Not just when crisis comes. How can I build a firm foundation that would keep me anchored no matter what changes come?
I start each day by reminding myself that change is inevitable. Trouble, hardships, suffering will come. Then I practice grounding myself securely in Jesus – who is the only constant, unchanging King of Kings.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
When everything is shaken the only question is, where are you standing? Is it safe and secure?
If you are in a season of change right now, lean on Jesus. Let Him draw you closer. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Relish the richness of His love revealed to you through His Word.
If you are coming out a season of change or somewhere in between, don’t be tempted to “lean on your own understanding.” Be reminded that we need Him every day. Not just when things are hard - but daily. The time to build a daily practice of hiding God’s Word on your heart is NOW. The Holy Spirit will remind you of specific scriptures or truths that will comfort and guide you in your next season.
If you need somewhere to begin, start by coming back here every Wednesday to find out how God may speak to you. If you are ready to dive deeper, connect with me on the Bible App and start this 6-day reading plan - Taste and See - Exploring God's Goodness. We can help encourage one another and build a firm foundation on the ONLY Kingdom that cannot be shaken.
Prayer – Thank You Lord, for the change – especially when those season lead me closer to you. Help me to prepare for the days of change ahead, as I spend time with You in the Word daily. Teach me to rely only upon YOU, my One and Only Unchanging God.
